Event Details

Is 2010 the year social media marketing went into the hype phase of inflated expectations? Are we deluding ourselves on its efficacy only to be let down by the harsh reality of limited reach and impact?

Our two speakers are at the coal face of social media marketing, both agency side who manage and implement campaigns for high profile clients, and will be offering deep insights based on experience rather than theory.

Join us at Hotel CBD, on Monday 29th November at 6pm for our Christmas drinks and final event of 2010, Mythbusting Social Media Marketing in Australia. Doors open at 6pm for mingling and drinks, with the presentations starting at 6:45pm.

Our speakers are:

Julian heads the Digital Team (Digital Producers and Community Managers) at TCO, creating mainly Social Media Strategies for clients and then looking after the team who implement these plans.

He is also founder of TCO Labs – which looks at researching new media, these projects are run by interns and supervised by a member of the Strategy team.

Grace hails from Sydney where she has had a diverse career in youth marketing around the fashion and entertainment industries.

Her expertise lies in the strategy and implementation of large scale social outreach programs for FMCG and Tech brands, working with large clients such as Unilever on their Facebook and Community Management.

We are expecting healthy debate around these core issues:

  • Is Twitter's reach limited in Australia?
  • How useful/effective is Twitter for most brands?
  • Even though YouTube is one of the top 3 most popular sites in Australia, how many talented vloggers are therein Australia and what is their reach?
  • Facebook is the juggernaut of social networks but what are the legal restrictions and myths around running brand pages?
  • Are there too few Australian blogs to make any impact in digital PR and do they yield any real influence?

Who should attend?

·       Businesses

·       Agencies

·       Clients – marketing managers, product managers

There will be short presentations, a question and answer forum from the live audience and the Twitter stream.

The event is $5 via PayPal, or $5 at the door to cover AV costs.

Thanks again to our sponsors at Merivale.
